Teen Bloggers Influencing the Blogosphere
Filed Under news | Leave a Comment
The great thing about the internet is that it gives everyone a voice. Well, everyone with a computer and an internet connection, that is. In the past, if you wanted to publish a rant and have potentially thousands of people read it, you had to pay for it. Unless of course you were a columnist for a newspaper or something…but you know what I mean!
Nowadays, it isn’t unheard of for bloggers as young as 15 to start a fashion blog that gets 70k hits a day. That’s a lot of people!
American Apparel, the super hip urban clothing line, has been regularly featuring popular teen fashion bloggers in some of their advertisements. Which only goes to show how much of an influence these young bloggers have become in the fashion world.
Unfortunately, yours truly is no longer a teenager. Rats! It’s not my fault that when I was a teenager the only computer I had was an oversized calculator.
Sigh.

Myriam Schaefer and the “It” Bag
Filed Under Handbags | Leave a Comment
Myriam Schaefer is a woman of character. And a woman of taste. She is behind the success of “City Bag”, the iconic Balenciaga bag. A bag that made the fortune of the claw. Right arm of Jean Paul Gaultier for ten years, then four years artistic director of ready-to-Wear Nina Ricci, the former student Berçot is called the early two miles by Nicolas Ghesquiere, Balenciaga’s artistic director. She is given the opportunity to create a line of bags. A first for the brand. Ghesquière duo wants to work on this project immediately and call Myriam Schaefer, a bag fanatic since the first hour. “I’ve always loved bags and jewelry. Very soon, I carried the old Hermes or Chanel bags inherited from my mother. “This is the beginning of ten years of collaboration. “There was an osmosis, a great ability to understand with Nicolas. The duo is obvious and goes to work. “One day a friend brought me a bag which I immediately inspired. From this model, I reworked the format, the look of the bag. That’s how the City Bag was born. ”
“Or a bag is a real investment for a woman, that’s why they cling to values safe. “
The City Bag Balenciaga then enters the legend of it-bags. With her look a little older and relaxed, he attracted all generations of the schoolgirl on the fashion editor. A bag transgenerational, discreet yet stylish. Convenient and easy to wear, the City Bag has a large public meeting. Ten years later, the “classic” has become an absolute must as is a Muse, a Paddington, a Spy or a Kelly. “It’s become an institution, it is carried everywhere and copied to the Chinese market or on the streets of Venice, the price of success,” she said with humor. The key to success? “It’s knowing how to answer a request. But the City Bag is a gradual success, the result of a collaboration. It is a success that has built slowly with Nicolas. It gave me confidence, I was given time and the result is paying. Balenciaga is a very strong brand with a great creation. ”
Allow time to time … That’s what regrets Myriam Schaefer. Consultant for major houses such as Tod’s, Roberto Cavalli, Pucci, she poses look a bit disillusioned about fashion today: “The brands have lost sight of the height and sometimes lack of intelligence on the market. The race results and policy number sterilize creative projects and do not give any more clarity to the customer. Or a bag is a real investment for a woman, that’s why they cling to safe values, “says she. It’s been ten years since his Balenciaga accept it-bag. Without suffering wear phenomenon. The City Bag is the third best-selling bag at Selfridges, a reward value strategy well thought out for Myriam Schaefer. “The crisis will make the average household brands, creativity will be rewarded. Only the highest marks remain. “The eminence grise of the it-bag has spoken.

Citizen of Humanity jeans have seen a huge burst in popularity this year (and it’s only March!). Don’t believe us? Ask Heidi Montag:

This picture was snapped recently in Amsterdam. But, make no mistake, the purchase of those jeans had nothing to do with an overdose of special brownies. They were a very wise choice.
Looking good, Heidi!
Interview with Johnny Depp
Filed Under Celebrities, Film | Leave a Comment
In this Hollywood hotel, where he received us, the artist is always rock soft-spoken, gentlemanly manners and appearance that we studied charm. Johnny Depp, 46, a door that day leaving a beret exceed his hair, all dark denim, a dark jacket with tartan, and scarf down a velvet green and purple. There are also glasses with blue lenses, rings and pendants in silver, the goatee … A cool and sexy look that has been consecrated in February by “GQ Magazine”, the “most stylish man in the world” . But Johnny prefers to talk about his art chameleon, his family life, and its projects, including a film with Vanessa Paradis, and of course Tim Burton, the director preferred. “Alice in Wonderland” is his seventh film with Tim Burton and Johnny Depp is more psychedelic than ever in the role of the hatter who is out of his head. This actor Electric has created a way to play, affirming an identity entirely unique, beyond its many metamorphoses. Time for an interview, he takes us into his wonderful world.
How did you get the idea of playing the character of the mad hatter … way too crazy?
Going to test my camera with my wig and dark circles of different colors, I said: “Producers are still panicking! “(Laughter). But I followed my instinct, and Tim Burton had on my side. Without concert, Tim and I had designed the way we image the hatter, and our two visions overlapped! Then we studied all the characters hair orange, Bozo the Clown to coat carrots through … well, all sorts of strange people, and it was a little disturbing! (Laughter)
From a sketch that is part of your usual working method?
I like to paint, and the first thing that comes to mind when you approach a role, they are images. Less, if I am playing someone who existed, but for drawing characters in the imagination, is primarily visual. Body language and work on voice come after, and this time the inspiration came directly from the two books by Lewis Carroll in which Tim was based, “Alice in Wonderland” and its sequel, “De l the other side of the mirror. ”
You were familiar with these books?
Coincidentally, I began to read and dissect these books just before they offered me the film. I am fascinated by the puzzles scattered by Lewis Carroll, including the fact that the letter M, which is often corresponds to mercury used to manufacture the caps, which poisoned the hatters. The index then was my key. I am told that the damage of mercury on my guys were evident by breaks schizophrenic mood, he should be conscious and suffer, and he took refuge behind a sort of Scottish accent and a lisp. To me, the hat is like one of her rings that change color with mood.
I always liked the “beat generation”. And of course I copied the look of Keith Richards – who, I announced, gave me permission to make a documentary about him! – To play the pirate Jack Sparrow.
Would you like the look and attitude of your characters could spill over your personal style is in town?
Or otherwise! (Laughter). The art of dress is important. The pastel lace sleeves that exceeds the hat says a lot about him. But style, as the game comes to instinct … I always liked the “beat generation”. And of course I copied the look of Keith Richards – who, I announced, gave me permission to make a documentary about him! – To play the pirate Jack Sparrow. I like clothes etched, the romanticism of Baudelaire …
After “Edward Scissorhands,” “Ed Wood,” “Sleepy Hollow,” “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” “Sweeney Todd” but also “The Corpse Bride,” “Alice in Wonderland” is your seventh film with Tim Burton!
The most amazing is that we always work the same way, we always use the same language obtuse among us. Except that now, each new movie, I wonder: “What if this time he did not like what I do? “Being both parents has a lot together. We are already talking to remake a movie together, an adaptation of a gothic soap seventies, seventy, entitled “Dark Shadows”. I have worked with many great directors, but with Tim is like being at the crest of a huge wave. Energy is fabulous.
Give you easily from one role to another?
I renew is vital. Moving from “Public Enemies” to “Alice in Wonderland” and then “The Rum Diary,” the adaptation of the book of my friend Hunter Thompson (Editor’s note: which will be released late 2010) is a perfect arc. The Mad Hatter was particularly after liberating the concentration required to embody John Dillinger. Also, I like the challenge of playing against a green background. Since nothing is real and that makes you give the reply to a tennis ball or a piece of Scotch, it gives you more flexibility! On the set of “Alice” was like being in a rocket and sent into the stratosphere!
Among movies to come, there is “The Tourist” with Angelina Jolie (during filming), but also the “Pirates of the Caribbean 4″ with Penélope Cruz, one speaks of a new collaboration with Emir Kusturica…
Amir and I are planning to run a version of the life of Pancho Villa. Things are emerging well, but making a film is chaotic. My friend Terry Gilliam (who always tries to finish his “Don Quixote” …) you can talk. My primary motivation for signing for another “Pirates of the Caribbean”, which is write, is selfish: I love to play Jack Sparrow! And then the first three had been shaped to work with each other, and suddenly the relationship between the characters were a bit lost. I would like to bring fans to whom I owe a lot, a final section more refined and more fun. “The Tourist” is a remake of the French thriller “Anthony Zimmer,” with Sophie Marceau and Yvan Attal. I was seduced by the idea of working under the direction of Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck (The Lives of Others “). Angelina is a gift: a serious, loving her husband and her children … And then I told the paparazzi that I had not quite caught on camera, then why not train in Paris and Venice with Brad and Angelina! (Laughter).
The actress that I also loved instantly Mia Wasikowska is playing Alice, a young girl with an old soul.
And again with Penélope Cruz, your partner in “Blow”?
I can not wait because she is an actress very exciting, you can throw any improvisation, it refers to you as surprising way. The actress that I also loved instantly Mia Wasikowska is playing Alice, a young girl with an old soul. But my accomplice in “Sweeney Todd, Helena Bonham Carter and Anne Hathaway, the red and white queen in” Alice in Wonderland “, are also remarkable. I’m lucky with my partners.
You have another project, not least with Vanessa!
“My American Lover,” a story inspired by the link between Simone de Beauvoir and Nelson Algren, an American macho as existentialist. Vanessa has already done much research. It’s very promising. We are developing the project with Lasse Hallström (the director of “Gilbert Grape” and “Chocolat”), I can not think of a false note.
Today, it’s unheard of to do so freely an occupation that is 100% fun.
How do you see your journey today?
When I did the first “Pirates of the Caribbean”, I feel spent in the enemy camp, for never before had I been well received in the commercial cinema of Hollywood: Tim Burton had been fight to win in “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.” Today, it’s unheard of to do so freely an occupation that is 100% fun.
How do we live, day to day in the shoes of Johnny Depp?
My interests are broad but still have to do with the arts, I can not help it. I do not know if we can still be an artist in film today, but I’m obsessed with it. Otherwise, I am a simple man. You give me a very good book and a good bottle of red wine in the breeze of wind, not far from my garden, and I’m happy. When I do not work, try to go with my family in our island of Bahamas. But we spend most time in our hamlet of Var (Plan de la Tour near Sainte-Maxime) where we have a nice peaceful life. My kids have calmed down 100% and I love this pace. It is not about business, the phone does not ring, we walk, do picnics … It is a perfect existence.
Interview with Milla Jovovich
Filed Under Celebrities | Leave a Comment
It appears suddenly, so sweet and feminine, in a harmony of gray satin and white lace (kimono mini’s clothing, rhinestone jewelry and silver jacket on edge) … that you almost forget his portrayal of the actress more knuckle-fist of Hollywood. At Los Angeles, where Milla Jovovich stays regularly, we met the mother of 34 years in the news who was married this summer to Paul WAS Anderson, director of the video game series “Resident Evil”. Actress, one can see currently on screens in the thriller “A Perfect Getaway (27) and” The Fourth Kind, “the supernatural suspense. Now in another part of “Resident Evil” by the summer.
Rocker and activist, Milla Jovovich has lent his voice warm (like a galaxy of star, Yannick Noah, Marion Cotillard, Guillaume Canet, Youssou N’Dour, Melanie Laurent …), the campaign of Bob Geldof and Kofi Annan against global warming . Supermodel, she is the muse of Isabel Marant, the scent of “Cashmere” by Donna Karan, it was renewed for one year contract with L’Oreal, and then fine stroke of brilliance, she has s ‘commit to represent the diamond Tiffany … And if the most beautiful of unconventional cinema and fashion has closed his own clothing line because of time, his passion remains intact fashion. Milla Jovovich we spoke with fervor, and attempts to define, “Prestigium”, a style that is hers alone.
Prestigium Your style in two words.
Milla Jovovich. Retro-glam. Female. Cool, I hope. A bit rebellious. I am always dressed in order to tell a story just by my appearance, without even having to talk to people. I choose my look to attract those who are like me and dissuade those who have nothing to say. I also dress according to my moods. The style is really one of my means of expression.
“I choose my look to attract those who are like me and dissuade those who have nothing to say”
The shape that you hate.
Milla Jovovich. I do not hate anything, but there are looks where you will not see me.
In the morning, or premeditated improvisation …
Milla Jovovich. … Improvisation calculated. When my friend Carmen Hawk and I had created our clothing line at the beginning, the workshops it was just us two in the kitchen … in pajamas. Too demotivating. Very quickly we made the effort to make the best for each other, we dress so fun, and we worked a lot better. That said, it is hard to pursue any career front, that of wife, mother, artist, public character, a girl who has the look … Last year, I closed the line Jovovich-Hawk, because after my birth, I knew I could not juggle all the elements of my life. My daughter Ever, who has 21 months, has become my absolute priority. Everyday I dress according to what I do with it. But if I see that my preparing myself amused, or fascinated, she is involved, which is already the case, then I feel less guilty for spending more than five minutes in front of my mirror.
Closet or dressing room …
Milla Jovovich. Wardrobes. The very highly organized. I appreciate beautiful clothes I have. My daughter is already beginning to have a closet bigger than mine, her wardrobe is fantastic. This is embarrassing (laughs)!
Games color or black and white …
Milla Jovovich. Colors … and white. I am romantic at heart.
Your creative fetishes.
Milla Jovovich. There would be too much to mention. Currently: Cavalli, Dior, Armani, Pucci, Miu Miu, Olivier Theyskens at Nina Ricci … It depends on opportunities. Donna Karan amazes me. It is so inventive, especially in today’s economy. When you buy a Donna Karan dress, you have three for the price of one, because his clothes can be worn in many different ways. I love that fashion is fun. Also Donna’s clothes make women strong, independent, good about themselves …
Your desire of the moment.
Milla Jovovich. This applies more clothes for children. Same for the shopping: now that’s it for Ever.
Your basic.
Milla Jovovich. Belts! A few pairs of jeans, of course.
New or vintage …
Milla Jovovich. Vintage. I collect lots of dresses and gowns, Victorian, turn of the twentieth century.
The unpardonable error of taste.
Milla Jovovich. I love the freedom mode. Minishort arrive on a red carpet if the urge takes me, and never mind the fashion police in Hollywood is jaundice (laughs).
“I love free mode. Minishort arrive on a red carpet if the urge takes me, and never mind the fashion police in Hollywood is jaundice ”
The detailed style that appeals to you in a man.
Milla Jovovich. I dress my husband, Paul. He cares, and I like a man. When I met him he wore only jeans and T-shirts. I appreciate a man puts occasionally beautiful costumes, but if it is a little too dainty about this is proof that this guy is not for me. If your guy spends more time in the bathroom than you, it’s very bad sign! And there is nothing I hate more than people who say to mock their appearance, whereas if you open the pharmacy in their bathroom, she is full of beauty products. That’s for me the absolute foil. I would say that it makes me angry!
The secret weapon to go from day to evening.
Milla Jovovich. Mascara or lipstick, or both, the highest heels, a scarf over frivolous, a belt or a headband in her hair, sequins on a large tee-shirt …
Footwear: A little, a lot, passionately …
Milla Jovovich. Much. There are some adorable styles from Manolo Blahnick vintage!
In your purse, there …
Milla Jovovich. A beautiful red lip. Very red. Sometimes when I sing on stage, what I did recently in Las Vegas rock band Puscifer I love wearing makeup outraged. During these moments, you can find colors and powder rather insane in my bag. I like to show different facets of my personality, like I give a performance. In the city cons, I like to be the natural, especially since motherhood, and I plus a moisturizing cream or something like that in my bag. That is why I let my hair grow and resumed my natural brown color because the dye constants had much damaged. He must know its essence allowed to breathe occasionally. At this point, I’d be delighted if I were offered film roles of normal girls and sweet. Girls who do not spend their time crying with a gun in the hands!
Your secrets for a quick beauty.
Milla Jovovich. For the year, even ten minutes at home, makes a fresh complexion. I lead a healthy life and I love the discipline. A mixture that is perhaps my roots, both Ukrainian and Californian. I’m not going to lie, I did a lot of gym after my pregnancy, and I followed a fairly strict regime to restore the line to ask again. I felt like it lasted forever, because I do not want to lose weight too quickly either. The will and physical effort is one thing, but do not violate her body.
“I’m not going to lie, I did a lot of gym after my pregnancy, and I followed a fairly strict regime to restore the line to ask again”
Milla Jovovich. The actresses of my generation or younger who dare to invent, reinvent themselves, have fun with fashion: Sienna Miller, Eva Mendes, Jessica Alba, Kate Bosworth, Penélope Cruz … All wonderful.
Life without fashion would be …
Milla Jovovich. After being outdated because they were too expensive or were too capricious, top-models are back in vogue. But the fashion landscape has changed. The actresses pose for fashion designers, models become actresses, singers make the film … I believe I have very fortunate to still be applied as a model because I enjoy fashion has never diminished. I started posing for fashion photographers when I was 11 years, this medium has allowed me to perform and be myself … Do not ask me to do without fashion!
A Couple things about Chanel
Filed Under Handbags | Leave a Comment
What is common between a padded bag, a tweed suit edged a little black dress, a gold chain, a camellia and beige shoes with black pieces? Chanel of course. For Coco Chanel has invented very early codes very strong, and thus create a modern fashion. Convenient, comfortable and allurée recognizable around the world and has been for nearly a century. The genius of Chanel is here. What is there in common between Auvergne born in the nineteenth ending poverty and a dandy, banker’s son, born in the war boom. The eagerness for work, creative genius and intelligence of the time, is what unites in a strange but lasting marriage, for already more than two decades successor Karl Lagerfeld and founder Coco Chanel. The original story of this woman really foreshadows a particular commercial success uncommon. While most of the houses before the war were gradually extinguished, Chanel, owned by the Wertheimer family since 1954, never listed by the will of its own discrete, despite its undoubted success, shows longevity uncommon in an area where more than for anyone else, the passage of time is a killer.
