The End of Silly Bands

That’s all, folks. It is officially not cool to wear silly bands anymore.

Of course, whether or not it was ever actually cool to begin with is debatable. However, the short yet huge surge in popularity the funky shaped little rubber bracelets experienced is undeniable. I mean, everyone was wearing these freaking things. Here is a brief list of celebrities I have witnessed wearing them:

  • Sarah Jessica Parker
  • Jake Gyllenhaal (yes I had to look up the spelling)
  • Tim McGraw (don’t ask how I know)
  • Katy Perry

I’m sure there are a few more that I’m forgetting, but you get the idea. This phenomenon got out of hand very quickly. Now that the lust has died down, we are all doing the walk of shame back to regular bracelets. No one even wants to be reminded about silly bands.

I was just corrected by a nosy nelly looking over my shoulder…apparently they are officially known as silly bandz. I guess the thrill hasn’t quite died out for everyone.

As for my silly bandz, they will be permanently resting in the giant time capsule I’ve been preparing for my backyard. Also in it you may find pet rocks, pogs, the expression “Yes-ahh!” and Kato Kaelin. Some hole-digger in the future is going to be pleasantly surprised.
